Announcing the release of a 2011 rendition of “Bevis” by Jazz Master, John Bercaw.
Included in the release, tracks will range from original cuts to covers that span across a lifetime journey of artistic expression. With the expected publish date of “Bevis” to be in the upcoming weeks, John has crossed into another direction of sharing his talent with the world.
Recent credits and appearances have given new life and more importantly, exposure to a true legend of piano. John’s own words perhaps explain best:
“I would like to sell my music to anyone who appreciates good piano. These are some of my best efforts and represent a lifetime of continued study with the best instrument. Everyone likes the aero-phone, membrain-o-phone, chord-o-phone, and ideo-phone. These instruments play only one note at a time, but the piano (which I consider a chord-o-phone) is a whole orchestra.
“At present I am working on personally recording all of the tunes in my head. It will take a while.
“The term BEVIS came when Cal Collins and I were driving down route 27 to Colerain for a gig and our drummer Terry Moore noticed a little town sign: BEVIS. Cal, who could never remember anyone’s name, had a habit of calling everyone baby, which came out BYAABIS. Terry noticed the similarity and started calling me BEVIS. It stuck and I have been known as BEVIS ever since. Later
Album Description:
I don’t know of any pianist who has recorded all of his storeroom of knowledge. These selections represent many years of gigs, practice, schooling and study. I would like to leave a legacy of the songs I love and some I don’t. I began in the late fifties thinking all I wished to do would be to take a decent improvised chorus on blues or rhythm changes. I was able to do that and went on to just be the best piano player I could be. Here they are, mistakes and all.
I have been into music all my life. From the hours I spent under my Mom’s piano, to the time spent in the practice room studying Bach and Chopin I somehow managed to become a reasonably good improvisor.
One always wishes to do the recordings over but time and money usually prevent it. I hope someone out there wants to have my renditions of the tunes I like the most, however, there’s more to come in the future. Just keep the faith. Anybody can hear Tatum or Peterson or Shearing play flawlessly and now is your chance to hear BEVIS play maybe in a different way.

Here’s what critics are already saying about Black Rivers Flow:
“LAZARUS A.D.’s Black Rivers Flow is meticulously perfect. The guitar solos are reminiscent of Slayer, the riffs remind me of Coroner, Atheist and Testament, and the precision of the guitar work brings to mind Metallica and Megadeth.” Altsounds.com
“This band is in no danger of suffering from a sophomore slump (the title track is especially wicked).” MetalSucks.net
“Grade-A modern American thrash metal.” Blabbermouth.net
“The album wraps up with the seven-minute ‘Eternal Vengeance’, which builds from a mellow vocal introduction reminiscent of James Hetfield’s (Metallica) somber moments to the crunching heaviness that defines the rest of the album. It too is a strong and, in a different way, expansive cut. LAZARUS A.D. have taken a big step forward with Black Rivers Flowand kept the killer instinct intact. No flash in the pan, this is a band to watch in 2011 and beyond.” Blabbermouth.net
“LAZARUS A.D. gets a lot of things right on Black Rivers Flow, namely the classic thrash feel, the headbangability and the incorporation of a second, very different vocal presence. Just be careful listening to this while driving. This album might make you a little reckless. RIYL: Metallica, Lamb of God, Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch, Goatwhore.” TheNewReview.net

“Although I’m not technically an American citizen, I’ve been living here for 20 years,” reflects Colin Hay from his home in California. “I like it here. You look up at the sky, and there’s no evidence of anything. It’s amazing to think that, under that sky, there is so much horror going on here…but it’s so beautiful at the same time.” Hay’s new album, American Sunshine is marked by several sideways glances at the American dream – that perilous balance between potential and reality – along with knowing ruminations on the transformative effects of love and the passing of time, set to some of the purest pop, hardest rock, and most emotionally bare acoustic balladry Hay has yet laid down. Curiously, the America of American Sunshine is profoundly shaped by two very different dream factories on nearly opposite ends of the country: California and Nashville.
[adrotate group=”1″]
American Sunshine’s tracks include themes of redemption and renewal, which come naturally to Hay, as he is in the midst of a remarkable renaissance. While his voice and visage are still familiar to millions from his tenure as frontman, principal songwriter, and lead vocalist of pop sensations Men at Work (“Down Under,” “Overkill,” “Who Can It Be Now?”), the past 10 years have found him quietly re-introducing himself to new generations of fans. The frequent use of his music on soundtracks – including the hit television show Scrubs (on which he has also had several cameos) and the sleeper-hit soundtrack to the film Garden State – has proven the timeless appeal of his songs’ personae: quizzical, curious, cynical yet open-hearted. Combine that with tireless touring and an ongoing successful partnership with Nashville-based indie Compass Records, and Hay is poised to enter a new phase in his already storied career.
Most artists who have experienced the levels of success and adulation Hay has would be content to sit back and earn a living walking to the mailbox and back. Yet Hay is restless, eager to move forward and continually hone his craft while continuing to challenge himself. While the resultant performances have an easy-going clarity and honesty, the process behind much of American Sunshine was actually designed to take Hay out of his element and try working methods that were at once classic and unfamiliar. “Six of the songs,” he says, “are from a two-day session in Nashville.”
Much of the stripped-down energy and unflinching clarity of American Sunshine can also be attributed to Hay’s endless tour itinerary, which consists of both solo and full-band shows. Just prior to the release of American Sunshine, he traveled for a little over a month, playing 28 solo acoustic shows, 26 of them sold-out. “It was, honestly, the best tour I’ve ever done,” he says – no small claim from a man who has performed in every possible situation, from packed arenas and enormous outdoor festivals with a full band to demanding, intimate shows in small rooms with just his guitar. Hay’s solo shows intersperse classic and new songs with hilarious, poignant, and downright surreal stories drawn from his often unbelievable experiences over the past three decades.

These guitars were stolen out of my car in the university district of Seattle on Sunday morning between 02:15am and 03:30. The exact location is 52nd & 16th.
An Ibanez bass guitar was also taken with my two guitars. But, I’m not able to offer as much of a detailed description on that, and the two guitars are worth much more to me.

The distinctive NYC-based quintet Shenandoah and the Night announces the May 15th release of their self-titled debut EP, a moody pop offering which draws on everything from doo wop, old time rhythm and blues, folk and country to retro-fitted German cabaret.
Led by the bewitching singer/songwriter/producer Shenandoah Ableman (of the San Francisco-based Yard Dogs Road Show), Shenandoah and the Night offer a haunting, noir-ish sound counter-balanced by bursts of joy and infectious energy. Rootsy enough for folk enthusiasts without sacrificing its modernist edge, Shenandoah and the Night cast a wide net across the spectrums of taste and time, blending and blurring a diverse set of influences that range from the operatic anguish of Nina Simone and Kurt Weill, to the dusky psychedelic sturm und drang of the Doors and Janis Joplin.

Is Outasight on your radar yet? He should be. If you’ve ever enjoyed the soulful flair of Jamie Lidell, fine rhymes of A Tribe Called Quest, lyricism of Talib Kweli or throwback style of Mayer Hawthorne, this is definitely one to pay attention to. The Yonkers, New York bred musician weaves together the cadenced sounds of popular hip-hop and indie rock with the poignant sensibility of classic pop and soul music to create a fresh, new sound that is all his own.
Outasight (aka Richard Andrew) recently leaked a couple new tracks online. Just this week, OU dropped “It’s Like That,” which can be grabbed as a free download HERE and posted as a stream via Soundcloud HERE. “It’s Like That” video coming later this week. Additionally, the video for “Losing My Mind” (produced by 6th Sense), another new cut, can be seen HERE. The song can be downloaded for free in exchange for an email address HERE. And if you missed it a couple months back, OU put out a personal favorite of mine, the Freddie Gibbs assisted track “Near The End” which can be downloaded at RCRD LBL HERE.
OU confirmed for SXSW. He’ll be in Austin all week, playing showcases and doing press. Interested parties feel free to inquire about setting up some time with Outasight in Texas. OU Also confirmed for the Governor’s Ball in NYC with Girl Talk, Empire Of the Sun, Big Boi and more on June 18th.

From Forthcoming EP Bonfire, Available on iTunes June 2011
Free for Limited Time Only
The Brooklyn-based indie-electro band, My M.O., unleash their latest video “Bonfire Man,” where they blow off their dead end jobs in the city, high-jack their bosses car and head to Woodstock to reconnect with the forces of nature.
“Bonfire Man” is the first single from their sophomore EP aptly titled Bonfire. For a limited time only, the Bonfire EP is available for free download athttp://mymo.bandcamp.com/album/bonfire-ep, and then will be officially released through iTunes on Unemployable Music this June.
Hailing from all points on the globe (Texas, Australia, Jamaica), My M.O. represents New York City’s convergence of cultures at its best. Erika Buestami aka Enki is a singer and rapper from Australia, who handles lead vocals and bass. Katy Walker is a veteran DJ, originally from Texas, who plays keys, contributes vocals and produces their songs. Dion Mac is a Jamaican-born rocker, who shreds guitar and adds to the medley of vocals. Together, they subtly cull their broad range of influences into a tasty indie-pop blend of ethereal beats and saucy lyrics.
My M.O. formed in 2008 after the three frontwomen met through mutual friends while residing in Brooklyn. They started regularly playing live shows on the NYC circuit and released their 6-track debut, Monkey Remix EP, on Unemployable Music in August 2010. Their music video for first single “Monkey” created a viral buzz in the blogsphere, garnering a growing fanbase and praise from critics. “My M.O. is the type of independent group that have their act together,” claims The Fader.
In 2011, My M.O. gears up for their second EP Bonfire. “Bonfire Man” and the band are featured on the latest Samsung’s GALAXY Tab VCAM commercial for a special user-created Current TV campaign.

On April 11, 2011, Portland and San Francisco-based independent recording label Badman Recording Co. will celebrate the release of The Bell’s “Great Heat,” the latest from a Sweden-based post-punk/melodic pop outfit.
Listen to “thebell_today“ from the new album Great Heat.
Samples of previous press for The Bell:
“Hot Indie Rock” feature – iTunes
“I Am History finds singer Mathias Stromberg waxing philosophic in a cold-wave deadpan that sounds like a less throaty version of House of Love’s Guy Chadwick.” – NPR ‘Song of the Day’
“No matter what comes next, I get the feeling a lot of people will be paying attention.” – KEXP ‘Song of the Day’
Hailing from Malmo and Stockholm Sweden, The Bell are a three-piece with a penchant for memorable melodies and drum machine-driven, classic, alternative songs. Vocals and instruments are shared by the trio of Nicklas Nilsson, Mathias Stromberg, and Jan Petterson. Though they live many miles apart, they co-wrote and recorded “Great Heat” together through e-mail, electronic file exchanges, and Skype.
“Great Heat” is the follow-up to their strikingly good 2007 release “Make Some Quiet.”
Being a band living in separate cities does have its challenges. All was going splendidly while recording the album until it came time to sequence it.
Nicklas says: “We were mainly working through mail and chat and I guess we should have had some more calls or a meeting to clear things more easy. A couple of days into the process everything went chaos. We rapidly cycled through stages of consensus to massive conflicts. Beasts from a biblical hell took turns in throwing series of harsh words at each other and I recalls some gloomy but now amusing quotes”:
“OK, I quit the band!”
“You can do whatever you want with that record. I’m not in it any more.”
“You can redo the vocals yourselves. I am not going to give in to just anything.”
“Fuck this! It’s really not worth it.”
“I am not sure how it happened,” he continues, “but we finally ended up with the first sequence that we had came up with and we are all very happy with it now. The group’s wiry and catchy post-punk pop has had some significant success with sync placements on television. Vampire Diaries, MTV:s Jersey Shore (we agree that one’s a bit weird) as well as the ABC shows Greek and Kyle X/Y have all featured tracks from the debut Make Some Quiet.”
Singer Mathias Stromberg cuts through like Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, The Editors’ Tom Smith or Julian Cope (The Teardrop Explodes).
Instrumentalists Nicklas Nilsson and Jan Petterson keep the music tense and propulsive. One is occasionally reminded of favorite, seminal band’s – such as Maps, Stars, Magnetic Fields and The Cure when spinning their music.
But, “Great Heat” comes with a more developed sound than their previous, wonderful offering, and leads like a trip through computerized sounds and a balanced choir of voices to support the nostalgic glam-rock style.
The riffs, the strings, the cold vocals – it’s all there. Colored with the brilliant splashes of history this is a new and fresh take on the breathy 80s daydream. “Great Heat” delivers an immediate impact of songs that stick in your head after just one listen.
